Prohibited and Restricted Products

Which pieces cannot be listed on Gold Silver Global, which need documentation and how we review, remove and give notice.

Gold Silver Global is a marketplace for coins, bars and collectible pieces in precious metals. This page says what may not be listed or sold, what is accepted only with documentation and what happens when a listing breaches the rules. It applies to all sellers, private and professional, and to everything posted on the website, listings, photos, public questions, messages and reviews. It forms part of the Terms and Conditions.

Three tiers

  • Absolutely prohibited. What the law does not allow. Never accepted.
  • Prohibited by Gold Silver Global's rules. What may be lawful outside the website, but does not fit this marketplace.
  • Restricted. What is accepted only with documentation, verification or additional conditions.

Absolutely prohibited

  • Counterfeits. Fake coins, bars, slabs, labels or certificates presented as authentic.
  • Counterfeit currency. Any reproduction of banknotes or coins that are legal tender that the law prohibits, including medals and tokens resembling euro coins that do not comply with Regulation (EC) 2182/2004.
  • Stolen pieces or pieces of unlawful origin. Including those that appear in databases of stolen goods, such as Interpol's database of stolen works of art.
  • Cultural property illegally removed from its country. Archaeological pieces or pieces with heritage value without the documentation or license that the law requires. The rules are in Ancient Coins and Heritage.
  • Pieces and transactions affected by international sanctions. Anything covered by the sanctions of the United States (OFAC), the European Union or the United Nations, including Russian-origin gold whose import is prohibited by the European Union and the United States.
  • Goods linked to crimes. Anything that comes from money laundering, terrorist financing or any other criminal activity.
  • Intellectual property infringement. Pieces that reproduce protected trademarks, characters or designs without the owner's authorization.
  • Unlawful content. Messages, images or descriptions that incite hatred or violence, that glorify crimes or that violate the rights of other people.
  • Human remains. Any piece that contains them.

Prohibited by Gold Silver Global's rules

These are marketplace operating rules. They apply even if the piece is perfectly lawful outside the website.

Simulating a license you do not have

Added stickers, engravings, coloring or capsules that imitate an official license. For example, an American Eagle with a Star Wars sticker. Pieces with a real license exist, are listed and carry the verified “Official License” seal. What is prohibited is appearing to have a license that the piece does not have.

Unmarked replicas

Replicas and copies that are not declared as such in the listing or that do not carry the copy mark on the piece itself. In the United States, the Hobby Protection Act requires imitations of numismatic pieces to be stamped with the word COPY.

Undeclared alterations

Pieces that have been cleaned, polished, retouched, repatinated, repaired, with a hole plugged, a mount removed or coloring added after minting, without saying so. The alteration is not the problem. Hiding it is.

Numeric grades on pieces without a grading company capsule

A numeric grade, such as MS70 or PF69, may appear only if the piece is in the capsule of a recognized grading company (PCGS, NGC, CAC, ANACS, ICG or NCV) and the grade is the one on its label. It is prohibited in the title, the description, the photos and the messages for a piece without a capsule. Condition can be described in words, without scale figures.

Accessories

Capsules, albums, empty cases, scales, magnifying glasses, books and other collecting supplies. Gold Silver Global is a marketplace for pieces. The original cases, boxes and certificates that accompany a piece do form part of it.

Ancient coins, until its section opens in 2027

The Ancient Coins section opens in 2027 with its own verification rules. Until then, you cannot list coins of Antiquity, Byzantine, early Islamic, medieval, early modern coins from the 16th to 18th centuries, world coins of the 19th and 20th centuries from before the withdrawal of silver coinage, classic United States coins from before 1933 or ancient Chinese and Asian coins. A listing that includes them is reviewed by a person and, if the piece belongs to that section, it is removed with the corresponding notice. Content not allowed in listings and messages

  • Contact details, links to other websites or any invitation to pay or close the sale outside Gold Silver Global.
  • Requests for a lower price or proposals for in-person sales by message. For negotiating there is the Make an offer button, if the seller has activated it.
  • Photos that are not of the piece being sold, except the Encyclopedia catalog ones that the website uses by default.
  • Advertising, reviews in exchange for something and any attempt to manipulate reviews.

Restricted

They are accepted only if the stated conditions are met. Gold Silver Global may ask for documentation or a physical verification before publishing the listing or before releasing the payment.

  • Declared replicas. Only if the listing says from the title that it is a replica and the piece carries the copy mark that the law requires.
  • Pieces with symbols of totalitarian regimes. Only as a historical piece, with a neutral description and no glorification, and never shipped to countries where their sale is prohibited.
  • Pieces in a grading company capsule. The certificate number must match the piece and be verifiable in the company's registry. An open or tampered capsule, or one with a damaged label, is treated as a piece without a capsule.
  • Pieces with export restrictions from the issuing country. Some countries limit the export of their own coins or their gold. The seller is responsible for ensuring that the export is lawful.
  • Shipments to destinations with import restrictions. The seller must check that they can ship to the buyer's country. If they cannot, the listing shows the notice “This seller does not ship to your country”.
  • High-value transactions. Above certain amounts, additional documentation may be requested, such as proof of purchase of the piece or information about the seller's activity.
  • Users or payments linked to high-risk jurisdictions. Those on the FATF lists go through enhanced verification, and the transaction may not be accepted.

Sanctions screening and money laundering prevention

Gold Silver Global checks its users and their transactions against the sanctions lists of the United States Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), including the SDN list, the European Union consolidated list of financial sanctions and the United Nations Security Council consolidated list.

  • We do not serve persons or destinations subject to comprehensive sanctions.
  • If there is a match, the transaction is stopped, the payment is not released while it is reviewed and we may ask for documentation.
  • When the law requires it, we report the transaction to the competent authorities, such as FinCEN in the United States or the corresponding financial intelligence unit in the European Union. In those cases the law may prevent us from informing you.

To prevent money laundering, the identity verification rules also apply. You need to verify to buy from €200 or the equivalent in dollars, and to sell before the first listing, except for the unverified private seller, who may have up to €1,000 in total listed. Payment must be made from an account in the buyer's name, and above the card and PayPal limits bank transfer is mandatory. The details are in Identity Verification.

How we moderate

Before publishing. Each listing is reviewed before it goes onto the website. Automated tools help to sort and flag possible problems, and any rejection is decided by a person.

After publishing. Anyone can report a listing, a profile, a question or a message with the Report button, including holders of intellectual property rights. We review each report with diligence, in accordance with Article 16 of Regulation (EU) 2022/2065, the Digital Services Act, and inform whoever reported of the outcome.

At any time. That a listing has been approved does not prevent it from being removed afterwards if we receive new information that justifies it, or if an authority orders us to.

No removal, limitation or suspension is carried out without a person reviewing it.

Consequences

Depending on the severity and repetition, and always in a proportionate manner.

  • Rejection or removal of the listing or the content.
  • If the piece has already been sold, the sale may be canceled and the buyer receives a full refund.
  • The payment is not released while a doubtful transaction is reviewed.
  • Limitation of functions, temporary suspension or closure of the account. Whoever frequently posts manifestly unlawful content may be suspended after a prior warning, in accordance with Article 23 of the Digital Services Act.
  • Reporting to the authorities when the law requires it or there are signs of crime.

Reasoned notice

When we act on a listing or an account, we tell you in writing and explain why, in accordance with Article 17 of the Digital Services Act. The notice indicates what measure has been taken and its scope, the facts on which it is based, the rule on this page or the law that applies, whether automated tools were used to detect the case and how you can appeal it. We will only not notify you when the law or an order from an authority prevents us.

How to appeal a decision

  • Internal review. You can appeal the decision during the 6 months following the notice, from the notice itself or from the Contact form with the topic Legal. It is free of charge. It is reviewed by a person who did not take part in the decision, we reply with reasons and, if we made a mistake, we restore the listing or the account.
  • Out-of-court dispute settlement. If you live in the European Union, you can turn to an out-of-court dispute settlement body certified under Article 21 of the Digital Services Act.
  • Courts. In any case, you can go to the competent courts.
